Lonsdale House Bowness — Fab Location & Comfy Stay

Due to attending a training course in Bowness on Windemere I needed to stay at a hotel for 3 nights, ideally close to where the training course was taking place.

I chose the Lonsdale House because it looked very convenient, less than 5 minutes to training venue, and it had free car parking. It was also in a good location in Bowness on Windemere which I liked the idea of too.

The directions were very clear and on entering the hotel I headed around to the bar on the right hand side where I checked in.

A colleague from the training course decided to book a room at the hotel as well so we had fun sorting out the rooms between us. The lady who checked us in was very warm and friendly.

The parking for the hotel was accessed by following a short street around to the rear of the property and access to hotel was through the rear garden area.

There is a Londsale House Hotel in Ulverston and in my haste to book a room for my colleague I had mistakenly booked that instead of Lonsdale House in Bowness.

Thankfully it was resolved quickly with no fees once I had realised my mistake. However, I am sure it is not the first time it is happened.

Initially I was given a room on the ground floor just to the left on entering the hotel. Whilst the room was lovely and comfortable it was soon clear that it would be a bit too noisy for me (as a quiet country girl!). I asked to be moved and was given a wonderful attic room at the top of the hotel.

  • The service was great, friendly and a bit cheeky. We had a good laugh with the lady on reception who turned out to be the lady in the bar and the lady doing the breakfast service the following day. I do love a bit of sarcasm with my fried eggs in the morning!
  • The rooms were well furnished and had everything you needed in them including ample supplies of tea and coffee.
  • I loved my four poster bed.
  • The bathroom was tiny but it had a nice shower which was all I needed.
  • The breakfasts were good and we were served promptly which meant we didn’t have to hang round for ages before we headed off to work.
  • There was a cute bar on the lower level where we enjoyed a nice drink.
  • There was parking around the back of the hotel.

A lovely locals pub with great food, good beers, friendly dogs, customers & good banter!

We met another colleague for dinner at the Westmorland Inn as we had passed it when walking to our hotel and it looked OK.

It actually turned out to be lovely and we enjoyed a great meal, a good laugh with some of the locals and great service.

There was a selection of local beers that my colleague was delighted about. There was a dog in the pub that belonged to a drinker which I was delighted about and the food was great, which we were all delighted about.

We enjoyed traditional type pub food — my colleagues had sausage and mash and it was a very pleasant evening.

The Westmorland Inn is surprisingly large as it has a downstairs dining area also.

I would highly recommend this as a great place to meet locals.

The Royalty Cinema, Bowness A real cinema experience with a very friendly welcome

I love going to the cinema and it is something I often do when I travel too.

An independent cinema is the ideal so I couldn’t resist a visit to the Royalty Cinema when I was staying in Bowness as it was very close to my hotel (Lonsdale House).

The cinema experience is quirky and fun and it brought back alot of childhood memories for me. I grinned like a cheshire cat when they played the original Pearl and Dean tune at the start of the screening.

The ticket booth is right inside the entrance to the cinema and there is a small concession area. I bought some sweets, which were, as usual, gone by the time the main film had started.

I went to see the Dick Cheney biopic which I had been really keen to see.

The cinema screens are upstairs and it was very quiet when I went with only probably half a dozen other people in the gallery. Very helpfully the lady on the desk had recommended the gallery for a better view and how right she was.

I settled back and admired the art deco features of the cinema and then enjoyed the film which was terrifying, eye-opening and explained so many things that have happened too. At the end of the film several people left, but I like to watch the credits and was glad I did because towards the end of the credits there is a chilling moment where Christian Bale talks directly to the camera, as the lead character Dick Cheney. It felt like he was talking just to me and it was a spine tingling moment.

I can’t wait to visit again.
